Summer-autumn hunting season opens in Belarus on July 12

09.07.2025

The summer-autumn hunting season opens in Belarus on July 12. This was reported to BELTA by the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora.

The long-awaited summer-autumn hunting season will soon start, which traditionally opens on the second Saturday of July (July 12) and will last until the second Sunday of December (December 14). This is a time of rich opportunities for hunting enthusiasts, but also a period that requires special attention and strict adherence to the rules.

The first shots of the season will be fired at the snipe on the second Saturday of July (July 12). Then, starting from the second Saturday of August (August 9), hunting for waterfowl and marsh game, woodcock, wood pigeon, rock pigeon, quail and pheasant will open. The hazel grouse and grey partridge will become legal game from the first Saturday of September (September 6), and the white-fronted goose, bean goose, greylag goose and Canada goose — only from the third Saturday of September (September 20).

In addition to birds, when in the hunting grounds for the purpose of hunting, it is permitted to hunt wolves, jackals, foxes, raccoon dogs, gray crows and magpies, but only by those methods and tools that are permitted for hunting the animals specified in the permit.

Hunting is permitted only during daylight hours. The main methods are gun (from an ambush, from an approach, from an approach on boats without motors or with the motors turned off) and gunless (with birds of prey). For gun hunting of feathered game, only smooth-bore weapons with cartridges loaded with shot are permitted. The use of hunting dogs (except for hounds and greyhounds) is allowed.

It is strictly forbidden to carry or use rifled weapons (including combination weapons), hunting bows and crossbows, as well as cartridges with bullets or buckshot when hunting «for feathers». It is important to make sure that there are no accidentally lost prohibited ammunition in the cartridge belt or pockets.

Documents are a guarantee of legality. Before leaving, carefully check their availability and expiration dates. For gun hunting for unregulated species, the following are required: a state hunting license, a permit from the Department of Internal Affairs for weapons, a document confirming payment of the state fee (receipt or card check) and a hunting permit. The state fee gives the right to hunt for 12 months upon payment of 1 base unit or for 5 years (60 months) upon payment of 5 base units. It must be paid before the start of the hunt.

Knowledge of the hunting grounds is the key to success and safety. It is necessary to clearly understand where hunting is permitted, to know the boundaries of gamekeeper patrols, hunting dachas and especially hunting management zones. It is necessary to have an up-to-date map of the hunting grounds (you can download it from the websites of the RGOO «BOOR» or ihunt.by) and carefully study the information in the permit. In quiet zones (B), hunting is strictly prohibited. In small game hunting zones (B) and dog driving zones (G), there are usually no restrictions. But in ungulate hunting zones (A), hunting «by feather» is either completely prohibited or is only possible under the supervision of a hunting management employee.

Only dogs registered with the RGOO «BOOR» can be used in hunting — it is necessary to have a registration card with you.

Hunting «by feather» is permitted only for bird species listed in Appendix 1 to the hunting rules and specified in the permit. The extraction of a wild animal during a hunt that is not classified as a game animal or is not specified in the hunting permit (with the exception of undesirable species) is illegal hunting and entails administrative (Part 1 of Article 16.27 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) or criminal (Article 282 of the Criminal Code) liability, as well as the obligation of the offender to compensate for damage caused to the environment.
