On his way to the men’s single sculls final, Zalaty won his heat and placed second in the semifinals. In the main race, Yauheni clocked a time of 6:39.94, crossing the finish line in second place, finishing behind only his long-time rival, Olympic champion Oliver Zeidler of Germany.
In the battle for silver, the Belarusian edged out Greece’s Stefanos Ntouskos by one second. Representatives of Romania, Belgium, and Switzerland finished outside the top three. In 2025, Zalaty became the European champion and captured bronze at the World Championships, while two years ago, he brought home a silver medal from the Olympic Games.
Thus, Belarusian athletes concluded their performance at the tournament with two medals: one gold and one silver. Earlier, Tatsiana Klimovich and Alena Furman won gold in the women’s double sculls. In two other disciplines, Belarusian rowers placed fourth (lightweight women’s single sculls and men’s eight). In total, Belarus was represented by 17 athletes competing across five events in Italy.
