Representatives of seven companies from Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region (the Russian Federation) have arrived in Minsk to take part in the Days of Cooperation between Belarusian and Kaliningrad Businessmen.
Kaliningrad businessmen show great interest in cooperation with Belarus, Elena Kotylevskaya, the head of the foreign and economic ties department of the Kaliningrad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted during the opening of the Days of Cooperation between Belarusian and Kaliningrad Businessmen. In turn, a number of Belarusian companies are residents of the Free Economic Zone Kaliningrad.
As of today, a lot of Belarusian and Kaliningrad companies have been working in line with the concluded contracts. It concerns such Belarusian companies as Belwest, Zabudova and others. Within the framework of the Days, a number of Belarusian companies including Belintourist, the Molodechno-based Metalwork Plant, Belarusbank, the Institute of Resource-Saving and Natural Resources Problems intend to find business partners in Kaliningrad.
At present, Minsk is playing host to the contact-cooperation exchange. At the forum, the Kaliningrad region is represented by ZAO “Metallic Packing”, ZAO Rambol (design and consulting), Peat-Processing Plant “Petrovskoe”, Travel Company Mic-Avia, the Kaliningrad Regional Credit Bank.
According to the director general of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alexander Fedorchuk, in 2007, the trade between Belarus and the Kaliningrad region hit RUB3.667 billion, or 5.8% as against 2006. In 2007, the Belarusian exports to this region of the Russian Federation increased by 32.1% to reach RUB2.173 billion, the imports downed by 17.9% to reach 1.494 billion. In 2006, Belarus posted a deficit in trade with the Kaliningrad region to the tune RUB176.4 million. In 2007, Belarus posted a surplus in trade with the Russian region at the amount of RUB678.7 million.
The Days of Cooperation between Belarusian and Kaliningrad Businessmen have been organized by the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly with the Kaliningrad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Days will be running through July 2.
