A team of students of Belarusian State University has won three gold and one silver medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, BelTA learnt from First Deputy Education Minister Alexander Zhuk.
The 15th international student math competition was held in Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria) on July 25-31. Taking part in the competition were teams of more than 60 universities from 33 countries including, Russia, Ukraine and the USA. Within two days students were proposed to do 12 sums (6 sums per day). The sums were mathematical analysis, function analysis, complex variable theory, linear and abstract algebra, geometry, theory of combinations.
The team of Belarusian State University included students of the applied mathematics and computer science department and a student of the mechanical–mathematical department of the university. Ruslan Maksimov, Pavel Irzhavski and Ivan Bliznets won gold and Denis Kolyada took a silver medal.
“This is another success of Belarusian State University. All in all, they have won 29 gold, 19 silver and 5 bronze medals of this prestigious world championship,” Alexander Zhuk noted.
