Belarus will provide a firm support for China in Europe, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao in Beijing on August 7.
“There is no other European country that is a greater friend of China than we are. We will pursue the same policy we have been committed to for the last 10-15 years. We will provide you with a strong support, I state it publicly,” the Belarusian President underlined.
“We are ready to do anything to help Chinese people promote their interests in Europe. I also would like to suggest that you expand this kind of cooperation and even set up a special task group that will be responsible for addressing cooperation issues,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian head of state noted that Belarus is very happy that China won the right to host 2008 Summer Olympic Games. He highly praised the excellent organization of the Games.
Hu Jintao thanked Belarus for supporting China in the course of the preparation for the Olympic Games. In particular, the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China noted that in April 2008, the Belarusian President made a strong statement in support of the Chinese side when some representatives of the international community tried to block the Beijing Olympic Games.
Hu Jintao expressed his willingness to hold a discussion concerning the bilateral cooperation and to share views on a wide range of issues.
Alexander Lukashenko is also to visit the Olympic Village where the Belarusian flag will be raised on August 7.
The Belarusian head of state is to confer state awards on Belarusian athletes –members of the national rowing team: Yekaterina Karsten, Yulia Bichek and Natalia Gelakh.
