The gross grain harvest in Belarus has exceeded 5.2 million tonnes, BelTA learnt from the main plant growing department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
The Minsk oblast has cropped 1,239.500 tonnes, the Grodno oblast 1,035.000 tonnes. The top three also includes the Brest oblast with 943,000 tonnes. The Mogilev oblast has cropped 653,700 tonnes, Gomel 842,600 tonnes and Vitebsk oblast 504,500 tonnes.
The average yield this year is 37.6 centners per hectare, seven centners more than last year. The highest yield is in the Grodno oblast, 47.8 centners per hectare or 10 centners higher than in 2007. The grain yield in the Brest and Mogilev oblast is more than 38 centners per hectare.
All in all, Belarusian farmers have harvested 60.4% of the total areas under grain crops and leguminous plants, or 1.39 million hectares. The Gomel oblast harvested 80% of the cropping area, Brest oblast 71%, Grodno 63%, Minsk 56%, Mogilev 52%, Vitebsk 43%.
