In January-June 2008, the trade between Belarus and Ukraine exceeded $2.5 billion which is almost 2 times up from the same period of 2007, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.
In H1 2008, the export of Belarusian goods to Ukraine increased 2.6 times to reach $1.5 billion, the import picked up 48.1% and exceeded $1 billion. Belarus posted a surplus in trade with Ukraine at the amount of $467.5 million. In H1 2007, Belarus had a deficit in trade which reached $120.5 million.
The growth in exports to Ukraine was made up by the following groups of products: petrochemicals, tractors, potash fertilizers, trucks, harvesters, tyres, ethylene polymers, etc.
The imports from Ukraine rose due to the following goods: hot-rolled carbon steel sheets, ferroalloys, electric accumulators, railings, beer, etc.
Apart from that, in January-June 2008, Belarusian exports to Moldova rose 2 times, to Tajikistan 2.6 times, to Georgia 2 times, Kyrgyzstan 2.1 times, Uzbekistan 1.5 times, Azerbaijan 1.4 times, Armenia by 10%.
