The house is nearly sold out for performances held during the V Belarusian International Puppet Theatre Festival. “Full House” notice has been hanging in the box office of the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre since the morning and theatre goers are asking for a spare ticket, BelTA has learnt. The festival opened on October 3 with Maurice Maeterlinck’s Blue Bird staged by the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre. By October 9 four Minsk theatres will stage 20 performances by theatres from ten countries. The Belarusian State Puppet Theatre, the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre the Maxim Gorky National Academic Drama Theatre and the National Young Spectator Theatre will host performances by theatres from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belgium, the UK, and Germany. On October 3 theatre goers could see “The Intimate” performance by German theatre of Iris Meinhardt, a “Sea” by a Lithuanian theatre academy, a “Faust Cubed. 2360 Words” by the Russian Engineers Theatre Axe (Saint Petersburg). Belarus will be represented by the best performances of the Belarusian theatre Lyalka (Vitebsk), the Minsk Oblast Puppet Theatre Batleika (Molodechno), the Gomel State Puppet Theatre, and the Brest Puppet Theatre. The V Belarusian International Puppet Theatre Festival is held in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre. A jubilee soiree timed to the event will take place on October 9. The IV Belarusian International Puppet Theatre Festival took place in Minsk nine years ago. The festival organisers hope the forum will become a regular biannual one. Head Stage Director of the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre Aleksei Lelyavsky told BelTA, theatres of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan had expressed intention to come to the next forum. The recognition of their works at international festivals is the determining criteria for getting invited to Minsk. БЕЛТА
