Belarus and India have a great cooperation potential, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India Rajendra Kumar Tyagi on December 4. The meeting took place in view of the expiry of the diplomat’s term in office, informs BelTA. The Head of State said that Belarus is proud of the relations with such countries as China, Russia, India and values highly the cooperation with them. Alexander Lukashenko thanked the Ambassador of India for everything he has done to strengthen the bilateral relations with Belarus. The President stressed that during the diplomat’s tenure the Belarusian-Indian trade increased almost two times. Though the rate of growth has been good, the volume of bilateral trade is not high so far and the two sides will have to work on increasing it. The President is confident that at the new place of work Rajendra Kumar Tyagi will contribute to the strengthening of the Belarusian-Indian relations. Belarus and India have been closely cooperating in many areas including within the framework of the international organisations. Belarus-India cooperation in the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement is mutually beneficial. The positions of the two countries are similar or coincide on major issues of the international peace and security, approaches towards the implementation of the goals and tasks of the UN Millennium Declaration and the decisions of the main international conferences.
