Belarus and China may build up the mutual trade significantly, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Boris Batura said during his meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Lu Guicheng in Minsk on January 14, BelTA has learnt. Boris Batura noted that the meeting is held on the eve of the 17th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China. “I would like to point out the high level of the bilateral political relations and the mutual understanding between both the heads of state that allows Belarus and China to boost the trade. In 2008, the trade hit about $2 billion,” Boris Batura said. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic expressed confidence that the trade between the two countries will continue to grow. The Council of the Republic includes heads of companies and organizations which will allow both the countries to intensify the mutual trade, the official added. The liberalization of the Belarusian economy increases investment opportunities which is proved by the projects carried out by the Chinese side in Belarus, Boris Batura said. Belarus is interested in cooperation with China in ecology. In turn, Lu Guicheng noted that Belarus and China are traditionally friendly countries. “The Chinese Government pays a great attention to the development of the relations with Belarus. In recent years they have been rapidly developing,” the Ambassador underscored. The People’s Republic of China is a major foreign trade partner of Belarus. Belarus’ major exports to China are potash fertilisers, caprolactam, rock haulers and spare parts, microchips and chip assemblies, metal products, chemical products, machine tools and instruments. Belarusian Potash Company, Belneftekhim Shanghai Trading, Minsk Tractor Works, Minsk Wheel-Tractor Plant, BelAZ, Integral, Belarusian Steel Works, Gomselmash, Transaviaexport Airlines, Belarusbank, Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry have offices in China. From China Belarus mainly imports equipment, components and materials for export-oriented enterprises, consumer goods. 15 organizations with the participation of Chinese capital including 5 joint ventures and 10 foreign companies have been registered in Belarus.
