MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - On 21 January President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko conferred state awards on 60 distinguished citizens of the country in recognition of their many-year fruitful activity, high professional skills, considerable achievements and contribution to the development of the petrochemical industry, science, culture, transport, sports, healthcare, pharmaceutical sector, education, exemplary fulfillment of military duty. “I would like to express sincere gratitude to you for the talent, energy and skills you put in to increase the country’s economic, spiritual and turnover potential, improve living standards of our people. Such people who are able to think and act in tune with the times, make creative decisions and reach concrete results are always important for the state. The country needs them, especially today,” the head of state said. “In 2010 Belarus should completely exit the financial and economic crisis and achieve an even higher level of development. We should by all means achieve these goals. This is the only way to fulfill the five-year plan and the obligations we took at the Third All-Belarus People’s Assembly,” the head of state stressed. Alexander Lukashenko underlined that all the resources and reserves available should be involved. “Your achievements prove that it is possible to fulfill even the most ambitious goals,” the Belarusian President said as he addressed the awardees. According to the President, among the awardees there are a lot of workers, specialists and heads of the companies which have achieved impressive results in securing qualitative parameters of the Belarusian economy. Among them is the Belmedpreparaty Company. Alexander Lukashenko stated: “I am happy that we have such a company that ensures safety of our people by producing all necessary and important medications”. The head of state paid special attention to the fact that the Belmedpreparaty development made it possible to satisfy the domestic needs in medicines and improve the company’s export potential. The awardees included a large group of cultural and art figures, representatives of the scientific and education fields. The awards were also conferred on security officials. The Order of Honor was bestowed upon chief research scientist of the Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Pavel Apanasevich, the order of Frantsysk Skorina was presented to writer Alexander Savitsky and head of the chair of Grodno State University Valery Cherepitsa. The Order, For Service to the Motherland Third Class, was given to Deputy Head for Science of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Colonel Igor Bykov, Head of the Air Force and Defense Radio Engineering Troops Department Igor Nasibyants and Head of the Air Force and Air Defense General Staff Department Valery Svirido. In addition, a number of workers and servicemen received the medals, For Distinction in Military Service, For Labor Services, and Frantsysk Skorina medals. Honorary titles, People’s Artist, Honored Industrial Worker, Honored Educational Worker and Honored Physician, were bestowed upon four distinguished citizens of the country. “Your achievements show that the country is living and has been steadily developing,” the President concluded.
