MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – On 21 January Chairman of the State Control Committee (SCC) of Belarus Zenon Lomat reported to the President of Belarus on the results of the SCC activity in 2009, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. According to Zenon Lomat, last year inspections reduced by up to a third. Their efficiency, however, significantly increased. The head of state was briefed on the progress made in the implementation of Decree No 510 of 16 October 2009 “On improving the surveillance activity in the Republic of Belarus”. The State Control Committee coordinated the plans of the surveillance activity for H1 2010 (they can be found on the SCC official website). According to the plans, an estimated 36,800 inspections are to be held in the first half of the year. Of them 10,500 (29% of the total) will be carried out jointly with the supervising authorities. According to Zenon Lomat, as of 1 January 2010, 76 out of 118 farms planned for construction were built. Nine dairies have not been completed (two in the Vitebsk oblast, five in the Gomel oblast, one in the Grodno and Minsk oblasts each). Zenon Lomat reported on the results of assessing the efficient utilization of the state funds allotted for the implementation of the National Tourism Development Program for 2008-2010 and other state regional programs. The President was informed about the conclusions of the study of the resort potential of the Naroch region. In 2009 about 80,000 people vacationed in eight health farms, seven recreation centers and hotels of the region. It is about the same as in 2008. However, the underdeveloped tourist infrastructure impeded the development of tourism in the region. Zenon Lomat believes that in order to attract Belarusian and foreign tourists it is necessary to upgrade health and recreation facilities and hotels, construct a water sports center which will allow maintaining a steady inflow of tourists regardless of the season. Alexander Lukashenko supported a proposal to work out a draft state program to develop the Naroch resort area in 2011-2015. БЕЛТА
