MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has heard out reports by the governors of the Brest and Gomel oblasts on the current social and economic situation in the regions and the start of the harvesting campaign on 7 July, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. The governors pointed to good preconditions for fodder conservation and a good yield of cereal crops. The head of state ordered to conduct the harvesting campaign as fast as possible. It is important, Alexander Lukashenko said, that all the regions embark on harvesting campaign by 20 July. The President underlined that he will closely monitor the harvesting campaign in the regions. “We should not lose the moment; we should start harvesting as soon as possible. It is necessitated, first of all, by weather conditions. Bread cereals are good and they should be cropped in time and without loss,” Alexander Lukashenko said. He emphasized the need to create maximally comfortable working and living conditions for rural people involved in harvesting. Brest Oblast Governor Konstantin Sumar informed that by the start of the mass harvesting of cereal crops, all the harvesting and grain drying machines of the oblast will be operational. The Brest Oblast is now preparing for the harvesting campaign. Konstantin Sumar underlined that all the grain yielded during the day (up to 70,000 tonnes) will be immediately forwarded to grain drying machines. Corn farming in the region was discussed separately. According to the governor, this year the oblast was fully supplied with seeds produced by a plant in Ivatsevichy. The examination of fields revealed that crop yield from these seeds might be higher than that of seeds, bought in France and other countries. Konstantin Sumar informed the head of state about the construction of social facilities and the progress in fulfilling the targets set for the region. He pointed out to the growth in industrial production estimated at 13.4% to the same period a year before. The Gomel Oblast Governor informed the President about the harvesting of cereal and fodder crops. Twelve regions of the oblast had already started harvesting grain crops. Rapeseeds are cropped all over the oblast. Farm machinery is ready for a large-scale harvesting campaign. Gomel farmers expect a good corn yield this year. БЕЛТА
