MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Belarus and PACE are set to continue a constructive dialogue, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky said as he met with PACE Rapporteur on Belarus Sinikka Hurskainen on 23 August. The Vice Speaker expressed hope for further development of contacts between Belarus and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Confidence in the continuation of a dialogue is warmed up by a constructive approach in the development of the relations supported by Sinikka Hurskainen who was recently appointed new PACE Rapporteur on Belarus. “You have the warmest feelings for Belarus and its people. I think it will benefit the relations with PACE,” Viktor Guminsky said. In his words, Sinikka Hurskainen supported her commitment to a constructive dialogue with Belarus. Viktor Guminsky hopes that while in Belarus the European politician will be able to get familiar with the situation in the country, take public opinion. “We are open to cooperation with PACE. I believe sooner or later Belarus will become a full-fledged member of PACE,” the Vice-Speaker said. Sinikka Hurskainen, on her part, would like to know about the steps Belarus has been undertaking to resume closer cooperation with PACE. Abolition of capital punishment is at the first place. Sinikka Hurskainen expressed hope for the further development of the dialogue and new possible ways for making Belarus a member of the Council of Europe. БЕЛТА
