MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – The government should work hard and produce results, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told media on 1 September. Alexander Lukashenko believes that he criticized the government a while ago not in vain. “They say that the government will be forced to retire, that everyone who is in the government today will aim for the presidency. As far as the presidency is concerned, they are welcome. Any citizen of Belarus is free to collect signatures and run for the presidential office. Nobody bans anyone from doing it. Now is the time it can be done openly,” said the Belarusian head of state. Alexander Lukashenko stressed that while he criticized the government, he does not shrug off the responsibility. “I am not going to bow to anyone, neither the government, nor power-wielding agencies, no one. I am the president, I have the authority vested in me by the Constitution. I should work instead of doing PR and sealing up some problems, including before the elections. Before an election one should work harder and run faster that yesterday. It is especially true for the government. Results are needed. Without results I don’t need the government. Whatever it can be”. The President added: “For 15 years I’ve been criticizing those who work badly from my point of view. Do I have this right? I do. More than that, I am obliged to do it.” Alexander Lukashenko underlined once again that he had never exonerated himself from responsibility. “I am to blame for every bad thing going on in our country. I am the head of the executive power and I bear responsibility for it. And people should make me answerable. After the elections if they leave me as the president and if I want it, I will make my subordinates and members of the government answerable. I will make people do what is necessary where it is necessary. Now they can judge me and make their conclusions,” he added. БЕЛТА
