MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The Day of Belarusian Written Language gave a chance to get better knowledge of Belarus’ intangible heritage, its culture and literature, BelTA learnt from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Lu Guicheng, who attended the Day of Belarusian Written Language in Khoiniki on 5 September. “It was the first time I visited Gomel Oblast and this wonderful holiday that impressed me much,” the diplomat said. In his words, such events are important for the Belarusians as well as diplomats and foreign guests who learn a lot about the country. This holiday is called upon enhancing the prestige of the Belarusian written language as a basis of the centuries-old culture, strengthen its significance in the society’s intellectual life and pay tribute to the outstanding Belarusian enlighteners. Lu Guicheng paid a visit to house-museum of People’s Writer of Belarus Ivan Melezh, got familiar with the measures taken to mitigate the Chernobyl consequences during his trip around the region. The Day of Belarusian Written Language is a holiday of all those who preserve the intangible heritage of the Belarusian people, enrich its national culture, respect the native language. It is aimed at popularization of the best traditions of the Belarusian culture, printer’s ink and spirituality of the Belarusian people. Since Euphrosyne of Polotsk and Kirill of Turov, Francysk Skorna and Vasily Tyapinski, the book was protected during hard times as a priceless present and the grace of God. The Day of Belarusian Written Language was held in Belarus’ oldest town, Khoiniki, which was known as a village of a so-called Bragin County in the Great Duchy of Lithuania since 1512. Many outstanding people were born in Khoiniki. Among them are People’s Writer of Belarus Ivan Melezh, well-known writer, holder of the State Prize of Belarus Boris Sachenko, Honored Lawyer of Belarus Ivan Tishkevich, People’s Artist of Belarus Raisa Koshelkova, Honored Artist of Belarus Anna Avdeyenko, Honored Art Figure of Belarus Viktor Dashuk and many more.
