MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – During his working trip to China Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko paid a visit to the World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai on 10 October. The head of state attended the national pavilions of Belarus and China, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. In China Pavilion, the president took part in a solemn ceremony of symbolic opening of the Belarusian-Chinese Techopark in Changchun. An initiative to set up the technological cluster was put forward by the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus in November 2009 to expand the sci-tech cooperation programs with China. The project is implemented within Changchun high-tech manufacturing area. Nearly 15 companies there have stable relations with the Belarusian scientific and innovation organizations, take regular part in the sci-tech cooperation programs which include companies to manufacture medical laser equipment and a joint venture to produce high-accuracy electric motor sets. The first stage of the project envisages nearly 30 hectares of land for offices and manufacturing areas, with the allocation of 30 hectares more in the future. The creation of the technopark means a great breakthrough in the sci-tech cooperation between the two countries, Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Igor Voitov said during the opening ceremony. It will be a platform for joint projects and further advancement of products both to the Chinese market and neighboring countries. The technopark will be developing electronic and laser technologies, agro industrial and biotechnologies, others. There are plans to open a similar technological cluster in Belarus to produce high-tech, energy technologies. Alexander Lukashenko saw the expositions of the China Pavilion. The president also saw a presentation film on China and left a note in the Book of Honorary Guests. The Belarusian head of state received a model of the China Pavilion as a souvenir. The China Pavilion, the Crown of the East, is located in the center of the EXPO park. It is 63 meters high with the total area of 70,000 square meters. The head of state also attended the National Pavilion of Belarus to see its exposition and the assortment of the Belarusian products on display. Next to the National Pavilion of Belarus there are pavilions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Portugal. Belarus’ motto is “a treasure town”, where treasure means national cultural, achievements in science, art and industry. The organizers of the pavilion use advanced information technologies and holograms to showcase Belarus. These are the stories about ancient settlements, historical monuments, modern-day architecture, and picturesque places. The National Pavilion of Belarus has already been visited by 5 million people. The World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai is held from 1 May to 31 October 2010. Partaking in it are 192 states and 54 international organizations. This year the theme of the exposition is "Better City – Better Life". БЕЛТА
