MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – A project to build a sheet steel facility at the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) will be presented at Belarus’ Investment Forum in Frankfurt am Main on 17 November 2010, Dmitry Korchik, the chief of the general directorate for innovations and investments of the Industry Ministry of Belarus, told reporters in Minsk. The cost of the project is $1.3 billion. Construction of this plant is a serious matter. The project requires a large amount of investment. This will be a new joint enterprise, with Belarus owning a controlling stake,” Dmitry Korchik said. The main requirement for the investor is availability of raw materials, provision of the company with feed stock. As is known, BMZ uses metal scrap as a feed stock in its manufacture. Belarus held an international competition to select an investor for this project. “The latest results of the competition are yet to be summed up, though there are potential investors already,” he added. For the time being the Industry Ministry has not yet decided on the investor. A decision is expected to be adopted in October-November this year. In his words, the Industry Ministry will run section No. 3 “Promising investment areas (industry and agriculture). Privatization as a way to attract investment” at the investment forum in Germany. Partaking in the work of the section on behalf of Belarus will be heads and representatives of the State Property Committee, Industry Ministry, Agriculture and Food Ministry, Belgospishcheprom, Belneftekhim, Bellesbumprom, Bellegprom and the Free Economic Zone Mogilev. The section will feature 17 investment projects worth more than $2.8 billion. Among them is the construction of a sheet steel facility, a complex for poultry processing at the Smolevichi Battery Farm ($46 million), a new sugar mill ($450 million), a nitric acid workshop with the total capacity of 1200 tonnes per day at Grodno Azot ($95.5 million. Projects will also include a new manufacturing of worsted cloth ($192.5 million) and a production of multifunctional membrane products at the Free Economic Zone Mogilev ($30 million). БЕЛТА
