MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with Semyon Shapiro, the chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, to receive his report on 1 February, BelTA learned from the presidential press service. Semyon Shapiro reported on the results of social and economic development of Grodno Oblast in 2010 and in the last five years. The governor also reported on the plans for the next five-year period. Following the president’s instructions, which the head of state gave at the meeting with Grodno Oblast’s authorities in May 2010, the region has increased its industrial output considerably. In particular, Semyon Shapiro reported on the preparations in the region for the spring sowing campaign. To date the region has 70% of necessary fertilizers, namely phosphoric and nitrogen ones. The issues of personnel and technical aid are being addressed as well. The report included 20 issues, for example, the construction of big investment facilities. The head of state also gave orders to improve the transport infrastructure in the city of Grodno. Taking into account the fact that in 2010 Grodno Oblast failed to meet the target of social and economic development in agriculture and housing, the governor suggested certain measures to improve the situation. In general, Alexander Lukashenko supported the initiatives of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee. БЕЛТА
